A few pictures from this morning

Snow in Clear Lake Shores, TX

According to the weather this morning, it hasn’t snowed this early in the year (when it ever does snow) since 1945. And then it was only a “dusting”. It was around 2 inches last night before I went to bed. This morning much of it had already melted. :(

OMG!!!!!

by timechick on Dec.10, 2008, under My old Live Journal blog archive, Sailing

There must be an inch or more on my boat! It’s still snowing! In huge massive flakes!!! I’ll never make it off the boat in the morning. Houston will shut down. Nothing to do but make snow men in the morning. I’ve tried to take a picture, but none of them are coming out. I’ll get one in the morning.

Ok it’s sorta up…

by timechick on Dec.10, 2008, under My old Live Journal blog archive

I’ve put up a temporary splash page to the Chaosbutterfly.com site. It links to the new apps I’m experimenting with and I need a little input to help out in what I’m going to do next. This is much a work in progress so let me know what you think.

More work to be done on Chaosbutterfly

by timechick on Dec.09, 2008, under My old Live Journal blog archive

I’m still configuring the site. GoDaddy.com has some awesome tools and a very good linux based site. It brings me back to the old days where anyone could host a site on their own machine without worrying about everyone and their dog out there blocking you. I got tired of that crap and I think that’s what got me out of the habit of messing around with web stuff. Looks like my old site is going to get a huge makeover forced along by Ron’s death. I may even go back to using my chaosbutterfly addresses. They work now. Yea! Sorry Ron, but maybe it was a good thing for me. Never the less, I’ll miss that cocky smart ass.

Long fun weekends and progress made

by timechick on Dec.08, 2008, under My old Live Journal blog archive, Sailing

This has been a very long weekend, but it was fun for the most part. Dickens was a blast, I did spend most of it at the Elissa. We had sail training all day Saturday and all of it while in costume. We were trained on various masts this time and I was put on the Mizzen as usual. I guess due to all those times I’ve wound up on the mizzen during daysails. I must have spoken to a million tourists this weekend. I think the most distant tourist that came by was from Australia. I spoke to a few from Canada as well on Sunday that just happened to show up and were wondering around and asked about what was going on.

Heard a lot of hurricane stories this weekend, one in particular about someone riding it out on a sailboat in Payco Marina. That was the marina that wound up pretty much smashed up against the foot of the Galveston Causeway after the storm. The guy had apparently road it out by casting off his anchor as the storm had turned north and the winds were driving the waves over his bow. He had floated up and back and when the water subsided he found himself sitting in the parking lot and the rest of the marina and boats gone. Wow.

Thinking of boats, my old electrical problems are back. I’m still working on them and have when I’ve had half a minute in the dark when I have been home this weekend after Dickens. With any luck I should have dockside power back tonight. I just wish I was a bit stronger and crimping those 8 gauge wires wasn’t such a pain. I don’t have a wrench long enough to get enough leverage to bend those huge connectors down on those huge wires. I just need to rewire that whole starboard side. It’s a mess back there.

I also want to announce I will be getting my old www.chaosbutterfly.com site up and running soon. I decided to host it directly at GoDaddy.com where I have the domain. It seemed the cheapest option. I’ll be ftping the back up tonight to the new site. But my old email address now works again.

What is wrong with this picture?

by timechick on Dec.01, 2008, under My old Live Journal blog archive

See anything wrong with this picture? Well oddly, and sadly, most Texans don’t. This includes the Houston Visitors Center who put up this display down in the tunnel connecting 611 Walker and the Tunnel system. This display case has been like this for months now. One person I noticed even went so far as to put a post-it note on the case window pointing out the defect, but the note soon disappeared with nothing happening. A few weeks ago I even went down to the Visitor Center in City Hall and told them about it and they were shocked and appalled, but as of yet, they have done nothing. Oh well, it is time they were officially blogged.

In case you are still baffled about what is wrong, notice that there are several Texas Flags in this picture, tell me which is the one that is upside down? There is only one, and it’s pretty visible. Now that you have noticed, you can go down into the tunnels and point and laugh with the rest of us.

More updates made to the site

by timechick on Dec.01, 2008, under My old Live Journal blog archive

I’ve made a few more updates at the cafepress site. It’s a work in progress, but I’ve got a few more journals up there and kind of went crazy on making Minos. They just look very pretty with space picts, I had to do it. I am working on a few more calendars and journals. They seem to sell. Enjoy.
