Last training day at the Elissa

Today was it. Our last training day at the ship and oh godz, it was the longest. It has been raining all day and cold and just enough wind to make things out right miserable. I am thanking my lucky stars that I had the wherewithal to buy reasonably good quality foulies three years ago when I started this crazy thing. They held up very nicely. My only regrets were that my boots are only water resistant, not water proof. My feet slowly but surely got wetter and wetter until by the end of the day, they were soaked to the skin. We had our graduation ceremony in the Museum auditorium today instead of the ship. It was driving rain on the ship. We all passed out certificates and commemorative bandannas and helped ourselves to a bottle of rum that ridden out Ike in a locker in our sail loft. It was safe upstairs where the rest of the shop was flooded with 7 feet of water. Our shop still has it’s blue roof and it’s not much of a roof. It must have been raining inside the shop almost as much as it was outside today. We feasted on hotdogs and chips and wine and beer and gawdz, I’m so tired and I hurt. What an awesome day. We sail next week. I’m on the crew for the Coast guard inspection. Gods be with me.
