Ok, the plan is currently
by timechick on May.17, 2012, under Other stuff
The plan is currently to fix the car on Saturday. We found the part I need, the fan motor for the engine cooling fan in a used parts place in Pasadena. They close at 6pm so it will be very difficult to get there after work, especially in a car that may overheat.
When it rains, it pours…
by timechick on May.14, 2012, under Other stuff
Ok, I have the can of refrigerant. I just need to figure out how to put it in without destroying my refrigerator. That shouldn’t be a problem. All I need to do is have the time to do all this while the Sun is up. So… then the car breaks down. We thought it was the thermostat. Well… it’s not, we spent all day trying to replace it and this afternoon, when the car was already hot and I had to drive home in traffic, I was having the same problem. I started looking up the problems online and I’ve discovered it’s actually the engine cooling fan. Either that or the relay to the cooling fan has gone out or both. The relay is like a $5-10 part, the fan is more like a $70+ part. I hope it’s the relay. It’s raining outside now, so I can’t fiddle around and find out.
The Refrigerator
by timechick on May.08, 2012, under Other stuff
I have a bottle of the refrigerant, the problem is, it’s really meant for a car AC. So, it has a fancy additive refrigerant oil that I fear may eat my refrigerator. All cans have an oil in them to lubricate the system. This one has a sealant too in it and it’s own built in gauge and connector. It’s a nice system. It’s designed for a Car Air Conditioner, not refrigerator. I have no idea what is the proper pressure should be. So today’s project is to find out. At least it has a gauge. Last thing I need is for it to clog up my refrigerator coils.
Boat stuff… mainly refrigerator issues
by timechick on May.07, 2012, under Sailing
I know, I don’t post enough stuff about the boat. I’ve heard a complaint about that too. So here’s some boat stuff. My refrigerator is running low on refrigerant. I know this because I’ve been pouring through a few troubleshooting blogs and the manual for various same brand refrigerator kits. It may have a very slow leak somewhere. It’s been coming for quite a while. I started noticing it was doing weird stuff months ago, but this past week, it hit critical mass and I discovered most the stuff in the freezer had melted. Yuk. Of course I have to discover this AFTER a run to the store with a bunch of stuff to put in the refrigerator. It is still keeping cold for the most part, but barely in the safe range. Not a good sign. I have been pricing recharge kits. Fortunately, this one takes commonly available coolant that’s CFC free. There still may be a problem with the evaporator (the freezer part) in that it cools unevenly and according to all the manuals I’ve read, it may only be because of low coolant or it may be due to a blockage. I really hope it’s the coolant. Really. Those things are expensive. I’m going to drop by an autozone tonight and get a recharge kit. I’ll find out soon enough.

The farmers market in Herman Square

I use the term “Farmers Market” pretty loosely. There must be 20 venders here at least. However, only one is actually selling vegetables.

Hippies Occupy the National Prayer Breakfast

I just got an im from a Druid friend of mine who wished to remain annon that several well respected members of the Pagan community have been asked to join next year’s National Prayer Breakfast and speak on the behalf of all pagans. I just want to know how does one get an invite to this!
Going to Mars
by timechick on Mar.09, 2012, under astronomy, Blog, Science Fiction, tech
Me and my crew are going to see John Carter of Mars tomorrow. Yes, in the rain and all, we are going to Star Cinema Grill in Webster to see how they render a series of books I read back when I was in high school. I don’t remember the plot very well, but I do remember the imagery of Tars Tarkus and the eggs and all that crazy stuff. We will see how it comes out. The books were written back in the late 19th century and they have that crazy feel to them. Larger than life and pretentious in a way never found in 20th and 21st Century proper fiction. I think we’ve lost something there. It was perfectly cool then to “wish” yourself to Mars. These days, you have to imagine a space ship. haha
ConJour is over..
by timechick on Jan.29, 2012, under Other stuff
Now I have to get ready for Owlcon. I’m not doing much over there but running the Steampunk Texas LARP. There is scads of writing to be done and I have to print all the stuff up. Lots of work to be done. Anyway, you can get to the page at http://www.owlcon.com/2012/events_larp.php I have picked up through various sources, a box of nerf guns. I’ve painted them all gold and I’m not quite done yet with them.
Looks like I’ll have a new phone in a couple of days
by timechick on Jan.22, 2012, under Other stuff
Perhaps by tomorrow! After several days of patiently working with Sprint through Skype, I was able to get them to give me an early upgrade instead of having to wait 10 more days phone-less before I could get my $150 discount on a new phone. I’ve ordered a Motorola Photon. It’s a better phone than my EVO, not as well known either. It’s downfall is that it’s a Sprint phone as opposed to a pure Android phone. You have to weigh all the features when you look at phones. We will see how it goes.
Anyway, me and my friends will be at ConJour this coming weekend. Hope to see you all there.
