ConJour is over..
by timechick on Jan.29, 2012, under Other stuff
Now I have to get ready for Owlcon. I’m not doing much over there but running the Steampunk Texas LARP. There is scads of writing to be done and I have to print all the stuff up. Lots of work to be done. Anyway, you can get to the page at http://www.owlcon.com/2012/events_larp.php I have picked up through various sources, a box of nerf guns. I’ve painted them all gold and I’m not quite done yet with them.
Looks like I’ll have a new phone in a couple of days
by timechick on Jan.22, 2012, under Other stuff
Perhaps by tomorrow! After several days of patiently working with Sprint through Skype, I was able to get them to give me an early upgrade instead of having to wait 10 more days phone-less before I could get my $150 discount on a new phone. I’ve ordered a Motorola Photon. It’s a better phone than my EVO, not as well known either. It’s downfall is that it’s a Sprint phone as opposed to a pure Android phone. You have to weigh all the features when you look at phones. We will see how it goes.
Anyway, me and my friends will be at ConJour this coming weekend. Hope to see you all there.
There are two kinds of people …

Boaters and non-boaters.
I discovered this after I had a little accident returning from work last week and tried unsuccessfully to board my boat after a long day of a north wind blowing all the water out of the bay. The dock was a good 5 feet higher than the deck of my sailboat and pushed a good foot or two further from the dock as well. I tried to reach over to step on board and I have short little legs and arms and didn’t get a good enough grip. So in I went. I wrenched my left arm pretty good in the process too and I couldn’t move it enough through the pain to climb the dive ladder back up into the boat. So, I had to be rescued. That’s embarrassing. I hurt too.
Everytime I’ve told that story, I get one of two reactions. From non-boaters, it’s of horror. OMG! ARE YOU OK! YOU COULD HAVE DIED! Is usually what I get from people unaccustomed to boats.
From boaters is, “Oh, that’s happened to me, I had to once traipse though the muck at 2 in the morning trying to get to the ladder at the other end of the marina.” or some sort of funny story having to do with falling overboard. lol
My phone is dead, my new iPod nano I got from my dad for xmas is dead. The insurance covering the iPod apparently doesn’t cover accidents. What else would it be for? Insurance is such a scam. I will be getting a new phone soon, but I’ve been without for a week now and life hasn’t be so quiet in years. lol. I haven’t been totally without my connections. I have google voice activated on it so my phone’s soul is backed up in the google cloud and I can direct it to possess various phones I happen to be near, like work, my mom’s house phone, skype.. etc. Cool stuff Google voice.
I’ve had people tell me I’ve not posted enough boat stuff. I’ve been busy. But the latest is I’ve been pricing new engines and getting quotes. We shall see how that goes. I really do want that electric diesel hybrid and I will have it. haha.
While I was down there, I did get a good look at the stern. Poor Wind Reacher needs a pain job anyway.
So I’ve found another interesting website to visit

Have you ever noticed that a lot of those Voter ID bills all sound alike? Like people are cutting and pasting legislation? Well, there’s a reason for that. It really is being cut and pasted and distributed around the states. Here’s the group doing most of it, and they have been busy at it for quite a while.
If you really want to make an impact on the state of things, if you really want to do something to help the income gap. If you really want to empower yourself and others, you need to strike at the belly of the hydra and stop worrying about it’s heads.
Playing catch up

I’m going on vacation this Friday. I have yet to figure out what I’m going to do. However, it will involve Thanksgiving dinner at my sister’s house, and going to see a midnight movie on Friday night. A lot of it may be spent writing and/or cleaning the boat. Weather hasn’t been kind.

Nothing like cold hard fact to confirm what we already know. A few corporations do indeed control most the money in the world. But then again, it is a natural progression. The thing is, it’s an inherently unstable system and as we found out in 2008, when one key member suffers, the other members are likely to follow. This dataset used in this study dates to right before the financial crisis in 2008 and it already shows who would be the key players involved.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained …

My first Petition, No more Think Tanks!
by timechick on Sep.08, 2011, under Blog, Politics
I’ve finished my first Petition, you can find it here: No More Think Tanks Petition. Please go and sign it.
I’ve always had a pet peeve about the political agenda mills that are privately funded think tanks. They exist only to legitimize sketchy, pseudo research for political gain. They go so far as to write and promote legislation to influence our government. They are parasites and need to shown to the world for what they are.
Please sign my petition and send a message to the media that we will no longer accept their pseudo research as legitimate and please no longer ask their speakers to guest on shows or use their pseudo research as fact.

So, have you ever wanted to put together one of those petitions to your local government and just didn’t know how or didn’t want to wonder around with a clipboard and look like a larouchie? Well…. here’s your chance.
I’m still trying to think of a topic for my first petition. Any good ideas out there?
